IDD codes and Country codes

IDD codes are the International Dialing Codes on phone numbers. It is a prefix that allows a person to make a call out of the country. There are certain codes depending on the country you are going to make a call in. The country codes are a component of the international telephone calls, and they are needed to establish a call to another country.

Country phone codes start with a "+". The country codes are a shortcut for the IDD codes. The "+" can be replaced with numbers. These codes are dialed before the phone number in order for the call to go through.

The most common IDD code is 00. If you are not going to use this code, you can use the shortcut I discussed earlier, "+". I am going to discuss the steps to follow to make a call to a different country with phone area codes.

  1. IDD country code you are calling from.
  2. telephone dialing code for the country of destination
  3. telephone area code
  4. the telephone number
**These steps have to be completed in order for the call to go through.**

There are also steps to follow when you are dialing to another country without phone area codes:

  1. IDD country code you are calling from
  2. Telephone dialing code from the country of destination
  3. Telephone number
I am going to explain how to call someone who lives in France.

1. You first need to dial the exit code. The exit code for the United States is 011.

2. You will then need to dial the country code for France, which is 33.

3.  Dial the city code.

4. You then can type the phone number

5.  For example, if you are going to eat at the Les Jardins D'italie in France and you are calling from the U.S., the number would be dialed like the number below.

The top number has the shortcut using the "+", and the bottom has the IDD code before the country code.
